Sessions are usually weekly, at a regular time each week.
We talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you'd like to be different and how we'll work together. We'll go at your pace and you only share what you're ready to.
Yes. What you say stays between us, within the limits set out in the UKATA and EATA ethical frameworks, which I'll explain at the start. This will also be explained in our contract for working together, which you'll receive ahead of the first session.
It varies. Some people find six to twelve sessions enough; others prefer longer-term support. We review regularly.
Please give 48 hours' notice. Sessions cancelled with less notice are charged in full.
Your personal information and therapy records are handled with care and stored securely in accordance with UK data protection legislation, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Respect for your privacy, informed consent, confidentiality and appropriate safeguarding are central to the way I work. I will always aim to be clear with you about how your information is used and the circumstances in which confidentiality may have limits.
Transactional Analysis, often shortened to TA, is the approach that informs my work. It is a psychological theory that looks at how we understand ourselves, how we relate to other people and the patterns that can develop within our relationships.
TA explores the different ways we can experience ourselves and respond to the world, as well as the interactions that take place between us. It can help us notice familiar patterns in our thoughts, feelings and behaviour, and begin to understand where they may have come from and whether they are still serving us.
One of the things I value about TA is that it is both relational and practical. It isn't simply about looking back at the past. It gives us a way of becoming more aware of what happens between people in the present, which includes what happens within the therapeutic relationship itself.
You don't need to know anything about Transactional Analysis before coming to therapy, and I won't expect you to learn a set of theories or terminology. The ideas are there to support our work together, not to give you another thing to think about.
If you'd like to talk about whether working together feels right for you, send me a short message. You don't need to explain everything now. I aim to respond within 48 hours.
